MPC Social Services

Volunteer

MPC Social Services has ongoing volunteering opportunities with our Pensioners’ Program, Medical Advice Center, children’s education club, and Task Force against Racism. Additionally, we are always looking for trained doctors, nurses, French speakers, and Russian speakers.

Pensioners’ Food and Fellowship Program

  • LocationSt. Andrew’s Anglican Church at Voznesenskiy pereulok 8. The closest metro stations are Pushkinskaya, Okhotniy Ryad, and Arbatskaya.
  • Hours: 11:00AM – 1:00PM on Wednesdays. Volunteers should arrive at 9:30 or 10:00 before the clients arrive.
  • Duties: Pack take-home food parcels for pensioners; chat with clients (Russian language helpful but not necessary); bake treats to share with clients.
  • Number of volunteers needed: Up to 10-12 volunteers per day to serve 110-120 pensioners.

Medical Advice Center

  • Location: MPC Parish Center. We have not shared our exact address here to protect our clients’ safety. The closest metro station is Kitai-Gorod.
  • Hours: 10:00AM – 1:00PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Wednesdays are our women’s clinic day, so we request only female volunteers on Wednesdays.
  • Duties: Translate French to English or Russian; volunteer medical professionals (doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, etc.) to assist patients; play with children and babies while their parents are in a medical consultation.
  • Number of volunteers needed: 2-3 per day.

Children’s Education Club

  • Location: TBD
  • Hours: 9:30AM – 12PM on Thursday
  • Duties: Help African immigrant children ages 3 to 6 learn written French so that they can learn English and other subjects in the future. Volunteers should be comfortable with spoken and written French. If you want to volunteer with this program but don’t speak French, you could prepare a hot lunch for about 10 children so that they can eat after their lesson.
  • Number of volunteers needed: 3-4 per day to teach 4-10 students.

Task Force against Racism

  • Location: MPC Parish Center. We have not shared our exact address here to protect our clients’ safety. The closest metro station is Kitai-Gorod.
  • Hours: Varies, usually on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons
  • Duties: Organize or support our community events. Volunteers help prepare lunch, organize games and activities, and assemble gift bags. MPC holds periodic workshops on health, art, jewelry making, and racism awareness, and volunteers can suggest new topics and lead the workshop.
  • Number of volunteers needed: 3-5 per community event.

Task Force against Racism: Client Advocacy

  • Location: Varies
  • Hours: Varies, depending on availability of the client and the agency they need to visit
  • Duties: Act as an advocate for clients (people applying for refugee status and victims of racially motivated violence, for example) who need help going to hospitals, partner organizations, government agencies, etc. Russian and French proficiency is very helpful. Volunteers should feel comfortable taking the metro and buses to appointments throughout Moscow.
